Lorna Winship
Grant manager
I have a degree in Business Administration and 15 years of experience working in various roles within the energy industry as well as 5 years of working on a major research project within Durham University.
Between 2001 and 2008 I worked in Communications for ExxonMobil in Germany, developing communication packages for various projects and events as well as communication strategies for other departments. I have extensive experience in organising and co-ordinating different types of events as well as engaging and working with both internal and external stakeholders.
In 2008 I moved to Durham (UK) and set up my own business, working as a Public Affairs Consultant. I initiated topics for ExxonMobil’s employee magazine and researched and wrote all articles for the German Production Unit. I have experience in developing management briefings and all aspects of copy writing of promotional and informational material, as well as the selection of exhibits and activities offered to visitors at fairs and other events.
In 2016 I joined Durham University to work on the Horizon 2020 project NATURVATION (NATure-based URban innoVATION) providing administrative management for the project office and co-ordinating the work programme across the project’s international consortium. I also contributed to the communication and dissemination work by promoting the project through providing input to the project website, leading the publication of digital and print material and the effective use of social media. I provided hands-on support in ‘translating’ academic research outputs to reach a wider audience.
The experience of working in both the corporate world as well as for an international and interdisciplinary research project within academia means I am well placed to tackle the challenges of implementing and managing this major funding scheme with diverse project partners around the world.
I live in Durham with my husband and two children.
